Abstract of "Zen Buddhism: The Method of Learning Beyond Verbiage and Sutra Description"
Jeff Fong

The universe is full of answers to our questions. Answers have been provided well ahead of time before we even ask the questions, only if we are willing to listen and be on the lookout. Trees, flowers, mountains, streams could also show us the truth and wisdom, only if we are willing to think beyond our conventional way of reasoning.

Our conventional way of thinking may be the things that often get us into troubles. During the lecture, we will discuss several examples of "Zen Kuons". Zen Kuons were the conversations between a Zen teacher and his students. The Zen teacher may introduce a paradox for the student to ponder. The paradox is the place where our rational mind bumps into its limitations.

Therefore, enlightenment may not be something for one to achieve. Rather, it may be a state in which that something is missing. That "something" was causing us to go by the conventional way of reasoning which made us to be egotistic, jealous, prejudicial, temperamental, indifferent,¡K¡K¡K¡K¡K.

We will be able to find happiness when we realize that we have actually lived and think beyond our self-imposed limitation.
